About Clarisa
A lifelong bond with animals, and a respect for what it costs to lose one
My love for animals has been a lifelong source of comfort, connection, and personal growth. Throughout my life, animals have taught me valuable lessons about trust, resilience, companionship, and unconditional love. These experiences have also given me a deep appreciation for the profound bond people share with their pets and the unique grief that comes when that bond is broken.
My personal experience with pet loss began as a teenager when I lost my first dog, a loss that left a lasting impact on me and helped me understand the deep emotional connection we form with our animal companions. Over the years, I have also cared for and worked with several senior horses, experiencing the heartbreak that comes with saying goodbye to beloved animals who have been important parts of our lives. These experiences have strengthened my passion for supporting others through the often overlooked grief associated with pet loss.
My professional background in grief support, combined with my personal experiences with animals and pet loss, allows me to approach clients with compassion, understanding, and respect for the unique relationship they shared with their beloved companion.
In the Saddle
What a red roan mare keeps teaching me
Today, I am the proud owner of a 12 year old red roan mare who has become an important part of my life. As an intermediate rider, horseback riding challenged me to overcome fears, build confidence, and step outside of my comfort zone. Through our partnership, I have learned more about myself, developed resilience, and discovered the healing power that animals can bring to our lives.
"My horse continues to remind me of the growth, joy, and connection that animals provide."

Background in Grief Support
Years of sitting with loss, in every form it takes
In addition to my personal experiences, I have spent several years working in grief support as a Grief Program Manager for a nonprofit organization. In this role, I managed and facilitated a variety of grief support groups.
-
Suicide Loss Survivors
Groups for people grieving someone who died by suicide.
-
Partner & Spouse Loss
Support after the death of a husband, wife, or life partner.
-
Parent Loss
A place for those grieving a mother or father.
-
Friends & Family Grief
Support after the death of a friend or family member.
-
The county's first Spanish speaking grief support group
I also developed and launched the county's first Spanish speaking grief support group, creating a space where individuals could process loss in their preferred language and cultural context.
Clarisa offers pet loss sessions in Spanish as well as English, so you can talk about your loss in the language you feel it in.
"The grief we experience after losing a pet is real, meaningful, and deserving of support, and I am honored to walk alongside individuals as they navigate that journey."
